IEC 60320 LSZH C14 C15 power cords are used in high-temperature applications, where the maximum pin temperature of the mating appliance inlet is up to 120C and where cabling is installed in areas with significant human presence where smoke can cause harm. The C15 connector is a high-temperature version of the C13 connector and has the same shape, amperage, and voltage as the C13 except for a notch between the two pins. This allows for a C15 connector to mate with a C14 inlet (such as on a desktop computer, router, switch, and low powered servers) or a C16 Inlet. The C14 plug will mate with the corresponding C13 receptacles on a rack mount PDU. Low Smoke Zero Halogen cables are typically used in highly regulated industries and government applications.

Why LSZH?
Typical cables manufactured with an SJT jacket are made out of PVC, which, contains Chlorine (part of the Halogen Group). When burned, Chlorine releases a toxic gas that can cause serious damage to humans and equipment. This is especially a concern where there is a large amount of densely packed cabling close to areas of high human traffic such as government buildings, airports, military bases, etc. LSZH cables solve this problem by removing the halogen from the compound used to create the jacket.
Typical Applications
IEC 60320 LSZH C14 to C15 Power cables are typically used in data centers and enterprise IT installations to provide power to high-end servers and networking equipment. This is due to the power supply units often generating significant amounts of heat, which could cause damage to a standard C13 connector.
Choosing the correct length
If operating in a data center, or high-density networking closet, it is critical to choose the correct length power cable to increase the efficiency of your installation. Choosing the shortest cable possible for your installation will allow you to reduce line loss (loss of energy due to resistance in the cable) as well as decrease the volume occupied by the cordage. Cubic inches are a hot commodity in high-density racks, by choosing the shortest cable possible you will increase airflow throughout the rack, increasing the efficiency of the PSU's on the server.
Choosing the correct color
Color-coded power cables are typically used to help identify cables in a rack. For example, a red power cable can be used to identify a primary PSU, will a blue power cable can be used to identify a secondary PSU. This can be critical in high availability data centers, where accidentally unplugging the correctly operating primary power supply, instead of the failed secondary power supply, can cost organizations thousands, even millions of dollars.
