This plug is found a lot in data center settings to access power from a power drop or an IEC 60309 power outlet under the floor of a data center. These power cables are significantly less expensive than the heavy duty IP67 plugs and connectors and are commonly paired with NEMA and IEC 60320 Connectors because of their low voltage and amperage ratings. The IP44 rating refers to the rating of the housing to prevent particle from entering, for this case IP44. This rating is also known as Splash-Proof, which will prevent water from entering unless it is submerged.

Splashproof vs. Weatherproof 60309 3 pin plugs and connectors.
For this 3 Pin series of IEC 60309 cables, we tend to use the “Splashproof” or IP44 rated plug types much more frequently than other product lines. This is because these lower rated power cables tend to be used for indoor locations where weather and water are not an issue. IP44 is a general rating for electrical equipment that classifies the Ingress protection of solids and liquids. IP44 will protect against 1.0mm particles of dust, and splashes of water. Weatherproof connectors listed at IP67 prevent all dust and temporary water immersion from entering the enclosure.

The IEC 60320 C13 is a grounded 3 Wire connector rated up to 250V and 15 Amps. The C13 mates with a C14 inlet, and is commonly used in a jumper cable scenario in IT Installations providing power from a PDU to a server, router, switch or other computing device. Most people know the C13 as 'the thing that plugs into my computer' because it is the standard connector used to power most desktop computers. In a desktop computer application, the most common cable is the NEMA 5-15P to C13, which connects your standard North American wall outlet to a desktop computer.

The IEC 320 C15 Power cable is used to power electrical devices that emit so much heat (intentionally or unintentionally) that they require a power connection that can withstand more than the 70 °C (158 °F) temperature rating of the standard C13. In combination with the C14 plug type, the use cases of this high-temperature cable are almost exclusively data center environments. This cable would most likely be found supplying a High-Powered Switch power from a rack-mounted PDU power supply source. If your equipment has a IEC320 C16 Inlet it should only be mated with the matching C15-Power Connector.

The IEC 60320 C19 is a grounded 3 Wire connector rated up to 250V and 20 Amps. The C19 mates with a C20 inlet, and is commonly used in a jumper cable scenario in IT Installations providing power from a PDU to a server, router, switch or other computing device. The C19 is typically used in high powered blade server chassis, large network routers, and other IT equipment that draws more power than a standard C13 can accommodate.
