About IEC 60320 C20 C19 Power Cords

C19 power cord extension available configurations.

We stock many different variations of the C19 C20 Power Cord to best suit every application of the product. We offer a wide range of lengths available in different colors and wire gauges. The standard jacket type we offer for this product series is SJT, since it is the most applicable for the environment of these cables. However, we also offer many application specific options like North America/ Europe approved cables, Low Smoke Zero Halogen Jackets for plenum-rated cables, TAA Approved Cables for Government projects, and many other specific variations of this product intended for specific use. We stock limited options for angled connector ends, which allow for connection in a confined space where a standard “straight” cable would not be able to fit.

C19 IEC connector vs. C20 IEC plug.

The IEC-320-C19 Connector can be thought of as the heavy-duty power connector of the IEC 60320 Series. It is like the C13 but can supply up to 20 Amperes of power versus 15 Amperes of the C13. The C19 Socket is the power source that the C20 Plug will insert into the cable and energize it. The C20 is the “male” end of the cable, which is an industry-accepted term to describe the plug end that mates with a power source with its exposed pins.

What is the difference between each wire gauge type for the c20/c19 power cord?

We offer this product series in a variety of wire gauges, to provide our customers with a specific product to best suit their requirements and circumstances. At times the many options can seem confusing. If you are positive that you require a c20/c19 extension cable, the only other technical decision you must make is the wire gauge. We recommend that our customers go with the “Heavy Duty” 12awg version if they are unsure of their power requirements as it can suit any circumstance. If you are using these cables for a global project in North America and Europe, we offer the dual-approved “C” series that is rated for 15 Amperes of power and classified as 14awg and 1.5mm2 H05VV-F.

The IEC 60320 C20 is a grounded 3 Wire Plug rated up to 250V and 20 Amps. The C20 mates with a C19 outlet, typically found on Data Center/IT specific PDUs (Power Distribution Unit). The most common configuration for a C20 is in a jumper cable scenario, providing power from a PDU to a blade server chassis, high powered server, large network router, or similar device.

The IEC 60320 C19 is a grounded 3 Wire connector rated up to 250V and 20 Amps. The C19 mates with a C20 inlet, and is commonly used in a jumper cable scenario in IT Installations providing power from a PDU to a server, router, switch or other computing device. The C19 is typically used in high powered blade server chassis, large network routers, and other IT equipment that draws more power than a standard C13 can accommodate.

About IEC 60320 C20 C19 Power Cords

The C19-C20 Power Cord will supply adequate power to your larger IT devices like High Powered Switches and Rack Mount Servers. It is generally found in the IT Closet of Corporate buildings and in Data Centers. The male and female are matching, which makes this an “extension cable”. It can be used to extend power from one source to another location or to directly plug into equipment.

General Information about IEC 60320 C20 to C19 Jumper Cords

IEC 60320 C20 to C19 power cord sets are used to connect a C19 outlet on a PDU, to a C20 inlet on an IT device.

Choosing the Right C20 to C19 Cord for Your Data Center

Connector Orientation: Straight vs. Angled

Standard straight C19 connectors work in most open-rack installations. If your PDU or server chassis is mounted in a confined space where a straight cord creates excessive bend radius or blocks adjacent ports, choose a left-angle or right-angle C19 variant. This collection includes both orientations.

Wire Gauge and Current Capacity

Select wire gauge based on the maximum current your device draws:

  • 12 AWG SJT — rated 20 A, 250 V; the default choice for North American data centers.
  • 14 AWG / 1.5 mm² H05VV-F — rated 15–16 A; dual UL/VDE-approved for global deployments.
  • 14 AWG SJT — rated 15 A; use only when load is confirmed below 15 A.

Certifications That Matter for Data Centers

Every cord in this collection is hi-pot tested. UL and cUL listings cover North American deployments. Cords carrying VDE, ENEC, KEMA, and CE marks are available for European installations. TAA-compliant options are stocked for government and federal projects.

Locking Styles

P-Lock, V-Lock, and A-Lock connectors add a mechanical retention mechanism to prevent accidental disconnection — a critical feature in high-density or high-availability environments. See the locking cord comparison guide to choose the right system for your PDU brand.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a C19 connector and a C20 plug?
The IEC 60320 C20 is the male plug — it has exposed pins and inserts into a power source. The IEC 60320 C19 is the female connector — it receives the C20 plug. Both are rated up to 20 A / 250 V. A C20-to-C19 cord is therefore an extension cable, commonly used to run power from a PDU's C19 outlet to a server or chassis with a C20 inlet.
What amperage rating do I need for a C20 to C19 power cord?
Three ratings are available in this collection:20 A / 12 AWG — the standard North American choice; handles any load a C20 circuit can deliver.16 A / 14 AWG (H05VV-F) — dual-approved for North America and Europe; thinner cordage suits high-density racks.15 A / 14 AWG — use only when you are certain the connected device draws less than 15 A.When in doubt, choose the 20 A / 12 AWG cord.
Are these C20 to C19 cords available with locking connectors?
Yes. This collection includes cords with P-Lock, V-Lock, and A-Lock locking styles on the C19 connector end. Locking cords prevent accidental disconnection in high-vibration or mission-critical data center environments. Filter by the locking style you need, or see the P-Lock / S-Lock / D-Lock guide for a side-by-side comparison of each system.
Can I order a custom length or color for a C20 to C19 cord?
Yes. Custom lengths and non-standard colors are available as made-to-order builds. Use the Power Cord Configurator on the site to specify your exact requirements, or contact the sales team directly. Volume pricing and blanket-order programs are also available for recurring OEM and data center projects.
