Why are they called mickey mouse connectors?
The “Mickey Mouse” connector is a trade name that stuck when trying to describe one of the many configurations of power cables used in the industry. Luckily for this hardly used connector type, the name stuck and despite only being used for low amperage applications like transformer supplies for monitors at least it has a distinct tradename!
C5 power cord uses
Due to the low power rating, the C5 Connectors are only used for small devices like a charger for an exceedingly small battery powered motor (ie. Electric Razor). The C5 Connector power cord or C5-C14 can be used to power a transformer for a monitor or other small device from any standard PDU.

The IEC 60320 C5 is a grounded 3 Wire connector rated up to 250V and 2.5 Amps Internationally or 125V and 10 Amps in North America. The C5 mates with a C6 inlet, and is commonly used for laptop power supplies, projectors, and some televisions. Being slightly smaller in size than the C13, the C5 can be a good choice for smaller appliances. This connector is sometimes referred to as a "Mickey Mouse" connector due to the shape of the connector looking similar to the kids television show character.

This connector is the lowest rated 60320 grounded connector, therefor its uses are for powering smaller devices. These include things like small rechargeable battery powered appliances like electrical razors, and other devices requiring less than 2.5 Amperes of power. The most common use for these C14 to C5 Power cords are supplying power to a monitor power supply from a standard Power Distribution Unit.

Why pair it with a C14 plug?
