The NEMA 1-15P is a 2 Wire 2 Blade ungrounded plug rated at 125V and 15 Amps in North America. The use of NEMA 1-15R (the receptacle matching the 1-15P) is discontinued in new home installations in the U.S (since 1962). NEMA 1-15P are compatible with the NEMA 5-15R outlet.

- Is the NEMA 1-15P plug the same as a Type A plug?
- No — they look similar but are not identical. The NEMA 1-15P (Type A) has two flat parallel blades and is ungrounded. The NEMA 5-15P (also called Type B) adds a round ground pin, making it a 3-wire plug. Both mate with the standard NEMA 5-15R outlet, but the 1-15P provides no ground path. For any grounded application, use a 5-15P cord set instead.
- Will a NEMA 1-15P adapter work in a standard US wall outlet?
- Yes. Although the NEMA 1-15R receptacle (the matching ungrounded outlet) has not been installed in new US construction since 1962, the 1-15P plug blades fit the hot and neutral slots of the common NEMA 5-15R outlet found in every US hotel, office, and home. The ground slot in the 5-15R is simply left unused.
- What is the amperage limit of the Europlug (CEE7/16) side of the adapter?
