About NEMA 6-15P Industrial Grade Cords 15A 250V

Access 250 volts of power to efficiently power your devices with the NEMA 6-15P to c13 power cables.

The efficiency of an electrical circuit relies on the systems in place, and the power available. Since the IEC 60320 C13 and C19 can utilize power with voltage tolerance from 125 to 250 Volts, you can reduce the wire gauge required by utilizing a higher voltage if it is available to you. If you have 250 Volts available, you will technically require half of the amperage to deliver the same amount of power at 125 Volts.

Extend 250V 15A NEMA 6-15R receptacle power with a NEMA 6-15P/R extension cord.

If your equipment power supply cord cannot reach the power source, a simple solution exists to easily extend the power off a wall outlet. We offer many different lengths of durable SJT 615P/R Extension cables to make your life easier.

The IEC 60320 C13 is a grounded 3 Wire connector rated up to 250V and 15 Amps. The C13 mates with a C14 inlet, and is commonly used in a jumper cable scenario in IT Installations providing power from a PDU to a server, router, switch or other computing device. Most people know the C13 as 'the thing that plugs into my computer' because it is the standard connector used to power most desktop computers. In a desktop computer application, the most common cable is the NEMA 5-15P to C13, which connects your standard North American wall outlet to a desktop computer.

About NEMA 6-15P Industrial Grade Cords 15A 250V

The USA NEMA 6-15 power cords are used in many industrial settings where a 250V Plug is required to supply adequate power to the equipment. The additional voltage will allow larger machines to operate under the limitations of normal amperage circuits (15A and 20A Circuits) that are more commonly installed in smaller industrial buildings. These power cords use durable SJT jacket material that has been tried and trued for most indoor circumstances and will protect the current carrying conductors that supply the power to your equipment.

General Information

NEMA 6-15P Plugs are used for 3 wire (hot-hot-ground) grounded devices not exceeding 250VAC and 20A. Depending on your electrical service, you may read either 208VAC or 240VAC phase to phase. This may affect your power draw and required amperage for wiring your equipment. Refer to your team or your equipment specifications sheet to determine the best electrical cord to fit your needs. Just as the NEMA 5-15P (plug) can fit in the 5-20R (receptacle), so can the 6-15P with the 6-20R.

The NEMA 6-15P to Open/Whip/Pig Tail- NACC is a power supply cord rated for 250VAC and 15A max with 14AWG. NACC, North American Color Code, refers to the color code of the conductor insulation which is BLACK / WHITE / GREEN. This cord is for field installation to equipment or device that requires a line, line and ground conductor (not exceeding the rated power of the cord) to operate. Standard Whips are Remove Outer Jacket(ROJ) 2" and then each conductor is stripped 1/4" to bare conductor. Other ROJ/Strip combinations are available for bulk quantities upon request. For two pole cords like this, "X" pole is generally black and "Y" pole is white, with green as the ground conductor.

Choosing the Right NEMA 6-15P Cord for Your Application

When to Use a NEMA 6-15P Cord Set

The NEMA 6-15P is the standard 250V 15A plug for North American commercial and industrial circuits. It is common in machine shops, laboratories, AV installations, and data centers running 208V or 240V phase-to-phase power. Using 250V instead of 120V delivers the same wattage at roughly half the current draw, which means smaller wire gauges and less heat in the circuit.

Matching the Connector to Your Equipment

  • C13 outlet — Use a 6-15P-to-C13 cord to power servers, switches, or other IT equipment from a 250V PDU or wall outlet.
  • C15 outlet — Specified for equipment with higher operating temperatures (e.g., hot-plug servers); drop-in replacement for C13 in most cases.
  • C19 outlet — For high-density PDUs and rack power strips that draw closer to the 15A limit.
  • NEMA 6-15R — Use an extension cord when the equipment's factory cord cannot reach the outlet.
  • Open/Whip — For OEM and field-wiring applications where the cord is terminated directly into a panel or enclosure.

208V vs. 240V: Does It Matter?

Depending on your electrical service, phase-to-phase voltage may read 208V or 240V. Both are within the 250V rating of these cords. Check your equipment's nameplate or specification sheet to confirm the required amperage at your actual supply voltage before selecting a cord.

Frequently asked questions

What is a NEMA 6-15P plug and what does it mate with?
The NEMA 6-15P is a 3-wire grounded plug rated for 250V AC and 15 amps. It features two horizontal blades and a ground pin, and it mates with the NEMA 6-15R receptacle. Because both blades are the same size, the plug is not polarized — it is used in commercial and industrial settings where 250V power is available, such as machine shops, labs, and data centers running 208V or 240V circuits.
Can I use a NEMA 6-15P plug in a NEMA 6-20R outlet?
Yes. The NEMA 6-15P plug fits into a NEMA 6-20R receptacle, just as a NEMA 5-15P fits a 5-20R. This is by design under the NEMA standard — the 6-20R accepts both 15A and 20A plugs. However, the cord itself remains rated at 15 amps maximum, so the circuit breaker or upstream protection must be sized appropriately for the cord's rating.
What connector types are available on NEMA 6-15P cord sets?
This collection includes NEMA 6-15P cords terminated with:IEC 60320 C13 — for servers, switches, and PDU-to-device jumpersIEC 60320 C15 — for higher-temperature equipment such as hot-plug serversIEC 60320 C19 — for high-density PDUs and rack power stripsNEMA 6-15R — extension cords to reach a 250V wall outletOpen/Whip (pigtail) — for field-wiring directly into equipment
What wire gauge and jacket type do these 15A 250V cords use?
All 42 cords in this collection use 14 AWG, 3-conductor SJT jacketed cordage. SJT (Service Junior Thermoplastic) is a durable, oil-resistant jacket rated for most indoor commercial and industrial environments. The conductors follow the North American Color Code (NACC): black (line), white (line), and green (ground). Every cord is hi-pot tested before shipment.
