Identifying a NEMA L6-15P plug compared to other 250v twist lock plugs.
The twist lock plugs are much harder to identify just by inspecting them, since they all have similar circular locking pins and only vary fractionally to prevent cross-plugging. To help the user with this, it is common for manufacturers to list the plug type on the face of the plug. Just for reference, here are the three most common NEMA L6 Plug types in comparison.

In the event your equipment power supply cord cannot reach the L6 15r twist lock outlet, you will need to extend the power to the machine with a 250V 15A NEMA Twist Lock extension cable. We stock many lengths to help provide accessibility to power for our customers. Since you are not adapting the connector type, and the cable is the same rating as the power supply, this will have no functional drawbacks. Just make sure to route your cable in a location where it is safe from heavy foot traffic or sharp/heavy objects that could damage the cable.

The NEMA L6-15P is rated for 250 Volts and 15 Amps by itself, but the rating of the cord set will depend on the composition of the cable. Since the plug will be the connection to the power source, the power cable will be rated for 250 Volt, and the amperage will depend on the wire gauge since all of the IEC320 connectors utilized in this product line are at least 15 Amperes rated. If the cable utilizes at least 14awg wire, the cable will be rated for 15 Amps.

The NEMA L6-15R (female receptacle) is a 3 Wire 3 Blade grounded wiring device rated up to 250V AC and 15 Amps. Intended for two-pole, three wire hot-hot-ground circuits with a nominal supply voltage of 240 or 208 V, depending on phase configuration.The locking feature prevents the plug from accidental disconnecting from the outlet, preventing power loss.

The IEC 60320 C13 is a grounded 3 Wire connector rated up to 250V and 15 Amps. The C13 mates with a C14 inlet, and is commonly used in a jumper cable scenario in IT Installations providing power from a PDU to a server, router, switch or other computing device. Most people know the C13 as 'the thing that plugs into my computer' because it is the standard connector used to power most desktop computers. In a desktop computer application, the most common cable is the NEMA 5-15P to C13, which connects your standard North American wall outlet to a desktop computer.

The IEC 60320 C19 is a grounded 3 Wire connector rated up to 250V and 20 Amps. The C19 mates with a C20 inlet, and is commonly used in a jumper cable scenario in IT Installations providing power from a PDU to a server, router, switch or other computing device. The C19 is typically used in high powered blade server chassis, large network routers, and other IT equipment that draws more power than a standard C13 can accommodate.

For this 250 Volt 15 Amp Twist Lock Product Line, we have connectors available with the IEC320 C13, C19, and NEMA L6-15R Extension cable. The standard wire gauge and jacket for this product line is Black SJT 14awg 3 Conductor. Since the amperage rating of almost all of the connectors and plugs is 15 Amperes, using 14awg for a standard wire gauge helps us stock more lengths and options for availability. These cables are commonly used where 250 Volts are readily accessible like a Data Center or industrial facility. The extra voltage reduces the amperage required for the same power output, and thus reduces the wire gauge of the cable which can be helpful in a high-density application.
