About 15A 125V NEMA L5-15P Twist-Lock Power Cords

The NEMA L5-15P Product series is the lowest rated product line of our twist lock series. Engineers and installers generally install this locking outlet due to high-traffic in the area it is being installed. These power cables are rated for 125 Volts and 15 Amperes of power, so they are no different from a standard power supply cord but they provide a secure connection to the power source. This can be especially useful for critical systems like a point of sale, or a Power Distribution Unit supplying power to a handful of employee desks.

The NEMA L5-15P Twist-Lock Power Cord Series is rated up to 125V and 15A. The plug can be locked into place on the matching receptacle which prevents nuisance disconnection. What Is the NEMA L5-15P Plug and When Do You Need It?

The NEMA L5-15P is a 3-wire, 125 V, 15 A twist-locking plug defined by NEMA standard WD-6. Its three blades are arranged in a circular pattern; inserting and rotating the plug locks it mechanically to a matching NEMA L5-15R receptacle, preventing accidental disconnection.

What is the difference between NEMA L5-15P and NEMA L5-15R?
L5-15P is the plug (the male end with blades) found on the cord. L5-15R is the receptacle (the female outlet mounted in a wall, floor box, or PDU). The two mate together: you insert the L5-15P into the L5-15R and twist to lock. When ordering a cord, confirm which end connects to your outlet and which end connects to your equipment.
Can I use an L5-15P cord on a standard 15A wall outlet?
No — a NEMA L5-15P plug will not fit a standard NEMA 5-15R straight-blade outlet because the blade geometry is different.
