The IEC 60320 C13 is a grounded 3 Wire connector rated up to 250V and 15 Amps. The C13 mates with a C14 inlet, and is commonly used in a jumper cable scenario in IT Installations providing power from a PDU to a server, router, switch or other computing device. Most people know the C13 as 'the thing that plugs into my computer' because it is the standard connector used to power most desktop computers. In a desktop computer application, the most common cable is the NEMA 5-15P to C13, which connects your standard North American wall outlet to a desktop computer.

About International IEC Plug Type N Power Cables | NBR14136 Brazil Power

The Type N Brazil plug type comes in 2 variations rated for 10 Amps and 20 Amps each respectively. They each have slightly different sized pins that will prevent the 20 Amp plug from being plugged into a 10 Amp outlet, creating a fire hazard. These plugs are rated for 250VAC and come in a straight cord grip, or a down angled cord grip for installations in tight locations like behind couches or furniture.

Buying Brazil NBR14136 Type N Power Cords: What to Know

Two plug sizes, one standard

Brazil's NBR14136 standard defines two grounded Type N plug variants. The 10A plug uses 3.7 mm diameter pins and fits any Type N outlet. The 20A plug uses larger 4.5 mm pins and mates only with a 20A Type N outlet — the size difference is a deliberate safety interlock. Verify your wall outlet rating before ordering.

INMETRO approval and Brazilian compliance

Power cords used in Brazil must carry INMETRO certification, Brazil's mandatory mark for electrical safety. Cords in this collection that carry INMETRO approval are labeled on each product page. For equipment imported into Brazil or deployed in Brazilian facilities, specifying INMETRO-marked cords is required for regulatory compliance.

Connector options for IT and data-center equipment

This collection covers the most common Brazil-to-equipment configurations:

  • NBR14136 → IEC 60320 C13 — standard server and networking equipment
  • NBR14136 → IEC 60320 C19 — high-power blade servers and PDUs
  • NBR14136 → NBR14136 — extension cables for Brazilian outlets

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the 10A and 20A NBR14136 Type N plug?
The two NBR14136 Type N plug variants differ in pin diameter:10A (3.7 mm pins): fits both 10A and 20A Type N outlets.20A (4.5 mm pins): fits only the matching 20A Type N outlet — the larger pins physically prevent insertion into a 10A socket, which prevents overloading.Choose the 10A plug for standard Brazilian wall outlets and the 20A plug for higher-draw equipment connected to a dedicated 20A circuit.
Is INMETRO certification required for power cords sold or used in Brazil?
Yes. INMETRO (Instituto Nacional de Metrologia, Qualidade e Tecnologia) is Brazil's mandatory product certification body. Power cords and plugs sold or imported into Brazil must carry INMETRO approval to demonstrate conformance with NBR14136 and related Brazilian standards. The INMETRO mark on each cord confirms it has been tested for safety and materials compliance under Brazilian jurisdiction. Individual product pages on this site indicate which SKUs carry INMETRO approval.
Can I use a Brazil NBR14136 Type N cord to power IEC 60320 equipment such as servers or PDUs?
Yes. Several cords in this collection combine a Brazil NBR14136 plug (wall end) with an IEC 60320 connector (equipment end):NBR14136 → C13: powers most servers, switches, and desktop equipment with a C14 inlet.NBR14136 → C19: powers high-draw blade servers and PDUs with a C20 inlet.Match the amperage rating of the plug to your circuit — use the 10A plug on 10A circuits and the 20A plug on 20A circuits.
What cordage standards are used in these Brazil power cords?
Cords in this collection use European harmonized cordage rated for 250V:H03VV-F 0.75 mm²: light-duty, 2.5A applications.H05VV-F 1.0 mm²: standard duty, up to 10A.H05VV-F 1.5 mm²: heavier duty, up to 16A.The specific cordage for each SKU is listed on its product detail page. All cords are hi-pot tested before shipment.
