About International IEC Type G Fuse Protected Power Cables

UK plug type G BS1363 3 pin 13 amp power cord.

The UK Fused plug is one of the safest plug types in the world. It features a ground pin and dedicated grounding conductor to ensure a path for electrical shorts, and also has an internally wired fuse. This will significantly reduce the time that an electrical short will occur when compared with using the standard electrical box fuse. Since the fuse is located right at the point of contact with power, it will reduce the time required for the safety mechanism to work. The power cables are approved under ASTA, which is the local approval agency for products used in the UK.

Singapore outlet plug type G power cords

The Singapore SS 145 Standard 3-Pin 13 amp comes with a fuse and is used in many countries including the United Kingdom. Recently the BS1363A standards have replaced the old Singapore BS 546 standard which is not used in the UK, but is still accepted in India and South Africa. These plugs are the safest in the world since the have both a ground pin and an internal fuse mechanism. The Singapore PSB SPRING Approval Agency, now called Enterprise Singapore is a government agency that oversees the safety of consumer goods like power cables in Singapore. The CPS Scheme ensures that 33 categories of household electrical appliances are tested to ensure safety. Singapore SS145 Standards are a set of standards cover the requirements for 13 amp switched and un-switchable outlets and plugs for household, commercial and industrial purposes in Singapore.

About International IEC Type G Fuse Protected Power Cables | BS1363 Power Cords

The type G Plug is rated for 250VAC and 13 Amps globally, and features a dedicated ground conductor and an internally fuse protected. The plug is easily identified from the fuse compartment located on the plug face. This added protection was designed as an additional safety measure for the end user. In the event of an electrical short, the amount of time before the over current device trips is greatly reduced by adding it at the plug instead of at the electrical panel.

Which Type G Cord Do You Need? A Quick Buyer's Guide

With 28 BS1363 Type G cords in this collection, the right choice depends on three variables: amperage, connector type, and certification region.

Amperage

  • 10 A cords — suitable for laptops, monitors, networking switches, and other light IT loads. Cordage is typically H05VV-F 1.0 mm².
  • 13 A cords — for servers, blade chassis, and higher-draw equipment. Cordage is H05VV-F 1.5 mm².
  • 2.5 A cords — C5 and C7 connectors for small appliances and compact devices.

Connector Type

  • C13 — the most common IT connector; mates with C14 inlets on servers, PDUs, and desktop computers.
  • C19 — high-current connector for blade servers and large routers; mates with C20 inlets.
  • C5 / C7 — cloverleaf and figure-8 connectors for compact consumer and commercial devices.
  • Locking (A-Lock) — C13 and C19 locking variants prevent accidental disconnection in data-center environments.

Certification Region

If the equipment will be used in the UK or Ireland, look for ASTA or BSI marks. For Singapore or Hong Kong, confirm PSB or HKSI approval. ENEC/VDE cords satisfy broader European harmonized requirements. Each product card displays its certifications at a glance.

Frequently asked questions

What countries use the BS1363 Type G plug?
The BS1363 Type G plug is the standard in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangladesh, Kenya, Cyprus, Malta, Brunei, Ghana, Botswana, and more than a dozen other countries. World Cord Sets lists the approved-for-use countries on each product and offers country-specific collections for the UK and Singapore.
What is the fuse inside a Type G plug and why does it matter?
Every BS1363 plug contains an internally wired fuse located at the point where the cord meets live power. Because the fuse is right at the plug — not at the breaker panel — it interrupts a fault faster than a standard circuit-breaker fuse, reducing the duration of any electrical short. This is why the Type G is widely regarded as one of the safest plug designs in the world.
What certifications do these Type G power cords carry?
Cords in this collection carry one or more of the following approvals:ASTA / BSI — United KingdomPSB / HKSI — Singapore & Hong KongENEC / VDE / KEMA — European harmonizedSASO — Saudi ArabiaIMQ — ItalySAA — AustraliaRoHS — EU hazardous-substance complianceEach product page lists its specific certifications so you can confirm compliance before ordering.
Can I get a Type G extension cord or a splitter configuration?
Yes. The collection includes a BS1363 to 2×C13 splitter cord that lets one Type G outlet feed two IEC C13 devices simultaneously. For a straight extension, look for the BS1363 Angled (M) → BS1363 Angled (F) cord (part GAGC-02039). Custom lengths and configurations are available through the Power Cord Configurator.
