About International IEC Type E, F and E/F
The schuko CEE7/7 power cables.
The CEE7/7 is the standard created by German engineers for a power plug type centered around safety. The standard was quickly adopted by the European union as the standard power plug type for their jurisdiction. Schuko is an acronym of the German word “Schutzkontakt” meaning safety contact, which is visible and the most distinguished part of the plug type. The type E/F is a hybrid plug type that blended the best features of the E and F types.
Types of schuko power plugs
There are three primary types of this plug, that were recently merged into a Hybrid E/F that is now the standard for power cable plug types for the region. The Type F receptacle will accept Type C, Type E, Type F and Type E/F. The original type E provided a ground connection with a female pin to slot connection type, while the newer F and E/F use exterior metal earthing plates as they provide the easiest path to ground in the event of an electrical short and protect the end users more effectively.

The plug (MALE) is a Type F Schuko CEE7/7. It fits both E (France) and F (European / Germany) type outlets (sockets). Available in straight or down/up angle orientation. The plug has two round pins (line and neutral) each 4.8 mm diameter, 19 mm long and spaced 19 mm apart. The plug also has two flat areas (top and bottom sides) and a female contact for the ground.

The IEC 60320 C13 is a grounded 3 Wire connector rated up to 250V and 15 Amps. The C13 mates with a C14 inlet, and is commonly used in a jumper cable scenario in IT Installations providing power from a PDU to a server, router, switch or other computing device. Most people know the C13 as 'the thing that plugs into my computer' because it is the standard connector used to power most desktop computers. In a desktop computer application, the most common cable is the NEMA 5-15P to C13, which connects your standard North American wall outlet to a desktop computer.

The IEC 60320 C19 is a grounded 3 Wire connector rated up to 250V and 20 Amps. The C19 mates with a C20 inlet, and is commonly used in a jumper cable scenario in IT Installations providing power from a PDU to a server, router, switch or other computing device. The C19 is typically used in high powered blade server chassis, large network routers, and other IT equipment that draws more power than a standard C13 can accommodate.

IEC 60320 C19 Locking (A-Lock)

The IEC 60320 C19 Locking Connector is rated for 20 Amps and 250VAC. It is a grounded connector type, with the A-Lock feature for latching the connector in place once it is mated. The A-Lock is a universal locking mechanism that internally pinches the pins of the male/inlet that it connects with. This effectively holds the connector in place until the user pinches and pulls back the two red tabs located on either side of the connector body.

About International IEC Type E, F and E/F | Schuko Power Cables
The Schuko Plug Type, also known as CEE7/7 or Type E/F is the most used plug in Europe. In countries that do not have their own 250 Volt plug type, they will often use the Schuko because of its robust design and superior safety features. This plug type is rated for 16 Amperes of power. We utilize the E/F configuration for our power cables because of the superior safety of the grounding feature.

Choosing the Right Schuko CEE7/7 Power Cord for Your Application
Plug orientation: straight vs. down-angle
Straight CEE7/7 plugs are the default for most rack and panel installations where clearance behind the outlet is not a concern. Down-angle plugs reduce the cord's footprint at the wall outlet and are preferred in tight equipment bays or when cords must route parallel to a surface.
Connector and amperage selection
Match the device-end connector to the inlet on your equipment:
- C13 (10 A) — standard servers, switches, routers with C14 inlets
- C19 (16 A) — high-draw blade chassis and PDUs with C20 inlets
- C15 (10 A, high-temp) — equipment that runs hot, such as certain switches and PoE gear
- C5 (2.5 A) — laptops and small appliances
Cordage and compliance
Most cords use H05VV-F PVC cordage rated at 300/500 V. LSZH (low-smoke zero-halogen) cordage is available for plenum or enclosed-space deployments where fire-safety codes require it. VDE approval is standard on 36 of the 40 SKUs here, covering Germany and most EU member states. TAA-compliant variants are stocked for US federal procurement.

- What is the difference between IEC Type E, Type F and Type E/F (Schuko)?
- Type E (France/Belgium) grounds through a male pin on the outlet that inserts into a female socket in the plug. Type F (Germany/most of Europe) grounds through two metal earthing clips on the sides of the plug. Type E/F (CEE7/7) is the hybrid standard that incorporates both grounding methods, making it physically compatible with both Type E and Type F outlets. The CEE7/7 is now the dominant Schuko plug shipped on European power cords.
