The IEC 60320 C13 is a grounded 3 Wire connector rated up to 250V and 15 Amps. However, the cables/cord sets in this category are rated at 10A due to the use of a thinner 18awg cordage only rated to 10A. The IEC 60320 C14 is a grounded 3 Wire Plug rated up to 250V and 15 Amps. The cord sets in this category are rated at 10A due to the use of 18awg cordage. The reason for using 18awg cordage is to reduce cost, reduce the size, and to help increase airflow in a dense installation by reducing the volume of cabling in the rack. The C14 mates with a C13 outlet, typically found on Data Center/IT specific PDUs (Power Distribution Unit). The most common configuration for a C14 is in a jumper cable scenario, providing power from a PDU to IT Equipment. The C14 is commonly found with 18awg, 3c SJT cordage, 16awg-3c SJT cordage, or 14awg-3c SJT cordage.
Which of these cables is the "standard" configuration?
The most common configuration found is the 10A, C14 to C13, 3FT & 6FT, with 18awg-3c SJT cable in Black. The reason this is the most common configuration found is these are standard lengths that are used in data center racks, and, the 10A variety is the cheapest version of this cable available. Most IT equipment does not require more than 10A (especially if operating at 208V). However, ensure you device does not require 13A or 15A cables.

What are the primary uses for C14 to C13 power cables?
C14 to C13 power cables are the standard power cable used in the data center for distributing power inside of the rack. Typically, each rack is configured with 2 Power Distribution Units (PDUs) fed from two different power sources for redundancy. Each PDU will have C14 outlets, allowing you to plug the C14 end of this cable into the PDU, and, the C13 end of this cable into the Power Supply Unit (PSU) on the server.

These are not only found in the data center however, they can also be used as an extension cable, typically to extend the length of a NEMA 5-15P (standard North American wall outlet plug) to C13 cable. The C13 plug on this cable fits into the C13 connector of the original cable, making the cable longer.
